Neighbor's brother raises cows & she was generous enough to share half with us! It's coming soon! I knew it would be better, but I didn't know HOW MUCH better!
I totally agree with everything Jessy wrote. My husband and I made the bold decision to move from city life to country life 4 years ago. It has been challenging but fun for us and the kids to adjust to this life.

Two years ago we decided to purchase a cow. After we fatened her up by free ranging on grass, fresh cut hay and alfalfa pellets, we took her to the slaughter house. Two weeks later, we had a whole cow in our freezer! We gave away a lot of meet to family and still took a whole year before we finished eating the meat and we are a family of 8.

Now we have, 6 heads of cattle (a bull, 3 cows and two calves that were born in our ranch). We enjoy interacting with them by petting them, bathing them and just having them around us when we are doing our landscaping/gardening outside.

We are getting ready to take one of the cows to the slaughter house in November and we have placed an ad in the paper to find three people that are willing to buy 1/4 cow each.

I don't buy beef from the store anymore :-)

Thank you for posting this! I had been looking at a few local places to purchase a cow, but couldn't read any reviews on them. I am planning on calling Lori first thing Monday! It is wonderful for someone who is new to this to be able to read how it worked!

We currently have 5 roasts, 3 packages of steaks, and 10 lbs of ground beef remaining and it is just the beginning of grill season. I am dreading having to buy regular store steaks or pay for organic steaks until we get our next cow order at the end of summer. This year we will buy 1/2 a cow and not split it. I believe that will last us through the whole season until we get our next 1/2 cow.
