Yes it would work for a front loading machine, use about 1/8 cup of the liquid detergent per load.  

If you want to make the powdered version of this recipe:  
1   Fels-Naptha soap bar- Finely Grated
1   Cup Washing Soda
½  Cup Borax

You use 2 tablespoons for top loading machines, 1 tablespoon for front loading machines.]]></description>
